The price moved up and budgets did not

The screens are dense and the terminology comes from the Navision era. New finance hires need weeks rather than days, and that training cost is real and never appears in any comparison.

Two way Excel editing that writes back to the ledger

Dense screens with terminology from an older era

Power BI on live data without a warehouse

Our implementation partner had done four companies in our industry and it showed. They pushed back on things we asked for that would have hurt us later. That relationship, not the software, is why this went well.

Your partner determines the outcome

Twice yearly release waves keep the product moving and mean a testing cycle we have to staff each time. It is the right trade and it is two weeks of somebody's year.

We appreciate you sharing this. Release readiness is something we want to make easier and your input is useful. Your partner or account team can discuss preview environments that may reduce your testing burden.

Support routes you back to the partner

When something breaks, Microsoft routes you to your partner and the partner bills you. For an issue that turned out to be a platform bug, I paid consultancy hours to have it diagnosed and reported. That model is hard to accept.

Support routes you back to the partner

Our first partner configured the inventory setup wrong, then put a junior on the project, then went quiet. We paid a second firm to redo most of it. Fourteen months and roughly double the budget. The software was never the problem and nobody warns you how much rides on the channel.

Dimensions that keep the chart of accounts small

Approvals happen in Teams where people already are

The Team Members licence at eight dollars covers everyone who needs to look things up and approve. We have thirty one full users and about ninety Team Members. Costing all of those at the full rate would have made the project impossible.

Power BI reads Business Central directly, so our dashboards are on live data rather than a nightly extract. Our previous ERP needed a warehouse project to answer anything.

Customization needs an AL developer and a queue

Quoted eight months, took twenty. Data migration was most of it and much of that was our own data being worse than we admitted. The rest was scope the partner should have found in discovery. Ask hard questions about what discovery covers.

Purchase approvals arrive in Teams and get approved in Teams. Nobody logs into the ERP to approve a requisition, which means approvals happen the same day rather than the same week.

Dimensions mean we stopped encoding department and location into account codes. Our chart of accounts went from about eleven hundred accounts to under three hundred, and reporting by any combination is now a filter rather than a rebuild.
