Verdict

Our verdict

Sage X3 exists for one specific and demanding customer: a regulated process manufacturer, typically food, chemical or pharmaceutical, where a recall has to be traced forward and backward across plants in minutes rather than days. NetSuite is the better general purpose choice for a discrete manufacturer or a services business that does not have formulas, potency or yield to manage. Every discrete ERP, NetSuite included, asks a process manufacturer to fake a recipe as a bill of materials, and that fake breaks the first time a batch comes in under strength. If your product has a formula rather than a parts list, X3 is worth the year long implementation. If it does not, NetSuite gets you there faster and for less.
