Overview

What is Sage HRMS?

Sage HRMS is the older, heavier answer in Sage's people line, and it is aimed squarely at established US employers who want their HR and payroll data on infrastructure they control. It is not a cloud product and it is not trying to be one.

What it does well

Payroll is real here, which separates it immediately from Sage HR. It runs US payroll in house, handles Form 941 and W-2, manages multi state withholding, and keeps the tax tables current through the maintenance plan. For an employer with people in eight states and an opinion about where their payroll data lives, that combination is genuinely hard to find.

Compliance depth is the other draw. ACA reporting with the 1094 and 1095 forms, EEO reporting, OSHA logs and FMLA tracking are all standard rather than add ons, and they are the things that get an HR director audited.

Where it fits

US employers roughly between one hundred and two thousand employees who have a reason to stay on premise, usually regulatory, and who already have an IT function. Canadian payroll is not the strength here; Sage sells different products north of the border.

Where it frustrates people

It is dated, and everyone says so. The interface is Windows client software from another era, the employee self service portal feels bolted on, and mobile access is effectively a browser view of a desktop app. Implementation runs through a partner and typically takes months, and the quality of that partner determines almost everything about your experience, which is a real risk you are taking on. Sage is also clearly steering new customers toward Sage HCM and Sage People, so anyone buying HRMS today should ask a direct question about the roadmap and get the answer in writing.

Works, but the roadmap worries me

Sage is clearly steering new customers to HCM and People. HRMS still works and still gets tax updates, but I would want a straight answer about the next five years in writing before signing a new term.

We appreciate the feedback on self service. Sage HRMS continues to receive tax and compliance updates, and we would welcome a conversation about how Sage HCM might fit your requirements.

Compliance depth you do not get elsewhere

The compliance side is the reason. EEO, OSHA logs, FMLA tracking, all standard. Every cloud product we evaluated treated at least one of those as an add on with a separate price.

Implementation ran double the estimate

Anything beyond the canned reports means Crystal Reports and either a consultant or somebody internal who learned it. That is an ongoing cost nobody mentioned during the sales process.

FAQ

We have the answers

Pricing

How much does Sage HRMS cost?

Sage HRMS does not publish a price. Every plan is quoted, and deals in this bracket typically land in the higher end of the market once implementation is included. Ask for a quote against your own headcount rather than a list price.

Integrations

What does Sage HRMS integrate with?

Sage HRMS connects with Sage 100, Sage 300, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Excel and 1 more. Confirm the specific integration you depend on with a trial account before you commit, since depth varies more than a logo wall suggests.

Local fit

Does Sage HRMS work for businesses in the US and Canada?

Sage HRMS serves businesses in both the United States and Canada, and nothing about it is country specific in the way accounting or payroll tools are. Pricing is listed in US dollars, which is the vendor's real list price on both sides of the border.

Reviews
