The ceiling is higher than we will ever reach
Reporting is in a different league. Our board pack comes out of Salesforce and nobody questions the numbers, which was not true of the spreadsheet it replaced.
Pros
You can hire Salesforce expertise in any city in the US or Canada.
Cons
Per seat pricing is high and the useful features sit on the upper tiers.

It models our process exactly, because we built it
With an admin, this is the best CRM available. Without one it is an expensive database. We hired a part time admin in month two and that is the decision that made the rollout work.
Pros
Customization has no practical ceiling. It will model any process you can describe.
Cons
Implementation partners are effectively mandatory and are not cheap.

The AppExchange had an integration for every system we run. Not a webhook and a prayer, a maintained integration with support behind it.

Sandbox environments let you test changes before they hit the team.

Powerful, and you will pay for the expertise
The license is maybe half the real cost. Between the implementation partner and the admin time, budget roughly double the sticker price for year one. It is worth it at our size and would have been absurd at fifteen people.
Pros
You can hire Salesforce expertise in any city in the US or Canada.
Cons
Contracts are annual and paid up front, so being wrong costs a year.

Great once configured, painful to configure
Reps find it dense. We trained everyone for a day and still spent two months on adoption. Once it clicked it clicked, but do not expect people to pick it up on their own.
Pros
The AppExchange has a maintained integration for essentially everything.
Cons
The interface is dense and reps need training before they adopt it.

Support costs extra, which nobody mentioned
Found out after signing that meaningful support is a paid add on unless you are on the top tier. For what we pay per seat annually, having to buy the right to get help felt like a bad joke.

Thank you for sharing this. Matching the right edition to a company's stage is something we take seriously and we are sorry the fit was wrong. We would welcome the chance to discuss what happened with your account team.
