Our verdict
Pick QuickBooks Online if you want bank feeds that work and the widest bench of bookkeepers who can help you cheaply. Pick Sage 50 if you need inventory and job costing depth QuickBooks Online genuinely does not have, and you are willing to pay more than three times the price and sign an annual commitment for it. The gap is not close on either axis: QuickBooks is the friendlier cloud product, Sage 50 is the deeper ledger. Businesses that outgrow QuickBooks's inventory usually land here next.
