Consolidating four entities stopped being a spreadsheet
Our accountant asked for it by name. She works in it faster than we do and year end went from a three week ordeal to about four days. If your accountant knows Sage 50, that alone is a real argument.

Capable, expensive, and stuck in 2010
It works and it has always worked. But at 128 a month for a single user, plus the payroll module on top, I do notice the bill. The value depends entirely on whether you need the depth, and for us it is close.

We appreciate the feedback and we are sorry about the support experience. That is not the standard we aim for. If you contact us with your case number we will review what happened and make sure it reaches the right team.

Job costing that a contractor can actually use
Job costing is genuinely good. We track labor and materials against jobs as they happen and I can see margin before the job closes instead of after. For a small construction outfit that is the whole ballgame.
Pros
Job costing is usable for real construction work

US and Canadian editions are separate purchases

Migrating in was far harder than promised
Nobody made the one year minimum commitment clear until we were in it. We knew within two months that the product was wrong for how we work, and we still paid for the year. That is on us for not reading closely, and it is also on how it was sold.

Consolidating four entities stopped being a spreadsheet
We moved here from QuickBooks Online because we could not get inventory right, and that problem disappeared in the first month. Assemblies, serial numbers and real costing all behave the way our controller expects. It is not pretty software but it is correct software, and correct is what I needed.

I have used this since it was Peachtree and the ledger has never once let me down. New staff complain about the interface for a month and then stop noticing. The reliability is worth more to me than a modern design would be.

Support could not answer a basic question
I called support about a multi state sales tax setup and spent forty minutes being read the knowledge base article I had already found. Escalation took nine days. The product is fine. The support around it is not what you are paying for.

Good software wearing a very old coat
Sage 50 Cloud is the desktop application with remote access stapled to it. That is useful and it is not what the name implies. If you are expecting a browser experience like Xero you will be disappointed on day one, and you should know that going in.

The audit trail did its job when we went through a review last year. Every change, who made it, when, and what it was before. Our auditor got what she asked for in one afternoon instead of the week it used to take.

Job costing that a contractor can actually use
Four companies consolidated on Premium without an export step. That alone justified the upgrade for us. I used to spend the first three days of every month in a spreadsheet stitching entities together and now I do not.
