The right answer for a one person business
Canadian payroll files our T4s and handles CPP, EI and the ROE when someone leaves. Remittance to CRA is automatic. For a five person shop in Alberta this is the whole job done for a fraction of what the big providers quoted.
Pros
The accounting and invoicing are genuinely free, not a limited trial.
Cons
Reporting is basic and exports are the answer to most non standard questions.

The invoicing is clean and clients pay by card from the invoice. I have used tools costing 40 dollars a month that did this worse.
Pros
The accounting and invoicing are genuinely free, not a limited trial.
Cons
US payroll only files for you in a limited set of states. Check yours first.

US payroll left us filing ourselves
Signed up for payroll and found our state is not one where Wave files for you. It calculates, then hands you the numbers to file yourself. That is not what full service means and it was not clear before I paid.
Pros
Receipt scanning works well enough to keep shoeboxes empty.

Support is email and a forum, and replies take days.

Thank you for flagging the bank connection issue. Silent feed failures are something we take seriously and our team would like the details. Please contact support so we can look at your specific institution.

Free has a ceiling and you will find it
It is excellent for what it is and it will not scale. No inventory, no projects, no multi currency. We are approaching the point where we need those and we will have to move. No complaints, but plan for it.
