The free tier is real
We had failed two CRM rollouts before this. The difference is that nobody had to be told to use HubSpot. It was easier than the spreadsheet, so they used it. Adoption problems are usually interface problems and this is the proof.
Pros
The knowledge base and academy are excellent and free.
Cons
Annual contracts are standard on paid tiers and renewal repricing is common.

Our bill doubled after a list import
Year one had a discount we did not fully register. Renewal came in at close to double, which is technically what we agreed and still felt like a trap. Read the renewal rate, not the first year rate.
Pros
Reporting is good enough for most businesses and needs no query building.
Cons
Annual contracts are standard on paid tiers and renewal repricing is common.

Our bill doubled after a list import
Imported a conference list of about 4,000 contacts without thinking about it and crossed a marketing contact tier. The bill roughly doubled, automatically, with no confirmation step. The mechanic is documented, it is just not in front of you at the moment you do the thing that triggers it. Clean your lists and check the tier first.
Pros
The knowledge base and academy are excellent and free.
Cons
The jump from Starter to Professional is steep and adds a mandatory onboarding fee.

Marketing and sales finally see the same record
Ran the free tier for fourteen months with a four person sales team and it was genuinely enough. No trial countdown, no crippled features. We only upgraded when we wanted sequences.
Pros
Email tracking, templates and meeting links work with no configuration.
Cons
Onboarding fees on the higher hubs run into the thousands and are not optional.

The first CRM our reps actually used
A rep opens a contact and sees every email, every page view and every form submission before the call. That context changed how our calls go and it is the thing I would miss most.
