The reports are pretty and shallow. Anything beyond the standard set means exporting to a spreadsheet, which is exactly what we bought software to stop doing. Our old system handled this better.
Pros
GST and HST handling is native and CRA ready for our Canadian entity.
Cons
US market share is small enough that some accountants charge extra to work in it.

Coming from a cluttered competitor, the clarity is a relief. Everything is where you would guess it is. Our bookkeeper was skeptical about the change and is now the loudest advocate for it.
Pros
GST and HST handling is native and CRA ready for our Canadian entity.
Cons
There is no phone support. Everything is email and the reply usually lands the next day.

Switched from QuickBooks and did not look back
The reconciliation screen is the best thing about it. Statement on the left, your records on the right, match and move. I trained a new hire on it in about twenty minutes with no manual.

Five people touch our books and every one of them has a login at no extra cost. Under our old system that was three paid seats and a shared password. That alone made the switch worth it, and the software turned out to be better too.

The cleanest accounting interface I have used
GST and HST handling is exactly right for us in Ontario. Returns are prepared correctly and filing to CRA is not a fight anymore.
Pros
The reconciliation screen is the clearest in this category. New staff learn it in a day.
Cons
US sales tax runs through Avalara rather than natively, which is more setup up front.

Great software, thin US bench
The product is excellent. Finding a US accountant who works in it is the problem. Two of the three firms we called quoted extra to work outside QuickBooks, which is not Xero's fault but it is a real cost you should price in.
