Our accountant pushed back hard at first because she is a QuickBooks person. She spent a month in it and now says the reporting is better. She still charges us slightly more for working outside her usual system and it is worth it.

The API is on the plan we already pay for, which is not true of most competitors. Our developer had our internal job system posting invoices into Books in about two days.

Sales tax covers the basics only
The product is genuinely good. Finding a US bookkeeper who already knows it is the problem. Two of the four firms we called quoted extra to work outside QuickBooks. That is not Zoho's fault and it is a real cost you should price in before switching.

Sales tax covers the basics only
Sales tax tracking handles the straightforward case well. Economic nexus across a dozen states is not something it solves on its own and we ended up adding Avalara. Fine, expected at this price, worth knowing.

The workflow rules are the part nobody mentions in comparisons. When an invoice goes thirty days past due it tags the customer, emails a reminder and notifies me, and I built that in about ten minutes without help. That single rule has done more for our cash flow than any conversation I have had with a client.

The mobile app does the basics and nothing more. I cannot do a proper reconciliation on it and reporting is barely usable on a phone. For a product this modern in the browser the app feels like a different company built it.

Thank you for the feedback. Slow first responses are not the standard we aim for and we have shared your note with our support leadership. If your ticket is still open please reply asking for escalation and it will be routed to a senior specialist.

The client portal ended the invoice copy emails
We ran the free plan for the whole first year because we were under the revenue threshold. Not a trial, not a countdown, just free until the business was big enough to pay. When we crossed it the paid plan was twenty dollars. That is a very different experience from being pushed off a cliff at day thirty.

We came off a spreadsheet and expected to compromise somewhere. Two years in I still have not found the compromise. Bank feeds are stable, reconciliation rules learned our vendors, and the reports my accountant asks for come straight out. For twenty dollars a month I keep expecting the other shoe.

The suite is a benefit and a pull
Zoho Payroll exists and does not cover our state, so we run Gusto alongside it. The integration is fine and it is still two systems and two bills. If you want one vendor for books and payroll, check your state before you commit rather than after.
