One owner, one due date, no ambiguity
Every task has exactly one owner. That sounds small and it ended about half the arguments we used to have about who was doing what.
Pros
It holds up past 50 people where lighter tools fall apart.
Cons
Default notification volume is high enough that people mute it.

Structured, and a bit joyless
It is more austere than monday and some of the team read that as cold. It is well designed and nobody would call it fun. That is a fair trade for us, but the reaction is real.
Pros
Portfolios and goals connect daily tasks to quarterly outcomes.
Cons
The interface is austere and some teams find it cold.

The free tier is generous, the jump is not
Free is genuinely good up to ten people. Then Starter is a real jump, and the features you probably want, portfolios and goals, are on Advanced, another jump again. Map your needs to tiers before you plan the budget.

It scaled past fifty people without breaking
We grew from 20 to 80 people on Asana and it did not fall over. The task model is strict about ownership and dates, and that strictness is what holds up when the volume gets real.
Pros
The free tier is usable for up to 10 teammates.
Cons
The interface is austere and some teams find it cold.

No time tracking is a real gap
We are an agency and we bill hours. Asana has no native time tracking, so we pay for a second tool and reconcile between them. For a product at this price that is a strange hole and it nearly disqualified it.
Pros
The task model is strict: one owner, one due date, no ambiguity.
Cons
Timeline, custom fields and rules all require a paid plan.

Intake used to be email and a spreadsheet. Now it is a form that routes automatically with rules. That removed an entire coordination job from my week.

Workload management shows who is actually overcommitted.

It scaled past fifty people without breaking
Portfolios are why we are here. My department heads can see whether the work actually ladders up to the quarterly goals, and the answer is sometimes no, which is exactly the point. No other tool in this bracket does this properly.
