Fewer HR features than a dedicated system
Performance reviews, applicant tracking and org planning are thin or absent. We run a separate tool for that. Justworks is a PEO first and an HR platform second, and the marketing slightly blurs that.

Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry the correction took as long as it did, as amended filings depend partly on agency timelines but our communication should have been clearer. Please reach out if anything is still open.

We hired our first employee in a new state on a Tuesday and were compliant there by Wednesday. Doing that ourselves would have been weeks of registration paperwork.

It published a price, which nobody else did
Workers compensation is bundled rather than a separate broker relationship and a separate audit. That removed an annual exercise nobody on our team was qualified to do.

Every other PEO we spoke to would not give a number without a discovery call and a proposal. Justworks publishes seventy nine and one hundred and nine per employee on their website. That transparency is why they got our shortlist and eventually our business.

Workers compensation handled without a broker
Payroll runs itself, the 401(k) is integrated, and I have not thought about a tax filing in two years. For a company of our size that is the entire value proposition.

Simple enough that I actually maintain it
We have people in four states and the compliance surface terrified me. Registrations, filings, state specific requirements. That is now their problem rather than mine and it is the single largest reason we pay the premium.

An onboarding error took weeks to unpick
An employee was onboarded with the wrong state and it took three weeks and several conversations to correct the withholding and the filings. Support was pleasant throughout and it still took three weeks and a corrected filing.

Co employment takes explaining internally
At fifteen people the pooled rates were a bargain. At around a hundred and thirty we started getting comparable direct quotes and the per employee fee became the expensive part. We are modelling a move, which I understand is the normal life cycle rather than a complaint.

I have contacted support at genuinely odd hours and got a competent human quickly, by phone and by Slack. As a founder doing HR at eleven at night after the real work, that availability is not a nice to have.

We are nineteen people and we offer health coverage that our candidates recognise from much larger employers. Shopping that on our own we were quoted terribly. Inside the pooled risk it is a different market, and it has directly won us two hires against bigger competitors.
