The HR side means we have not needed to hire an HR generalist yet. Handbook, compliance alerts, someone to call about a termination question. At 60 people that is a real saving.

The invoice is hard to read without asking someone to explain it.

Our specialist knows our account
I have a person. Her name is Karen, she has been on our account for three years, and when I call she already knows our setup. After years of explaining our situation to a new agent every time, I cannot overstate how much that is worth.
Pros
Migration and onboarding are handled for you rather than left as self service.
Cons
Pricing is quoted and add on heavy, and fees appear that were not in the quote.

We moved mid year with filings already in flight and Paychex handled the whole migration. Nothing was missed and I did almost nothing. That was the entire reason we chose them over a cheaper self service option.

Depends entirely on who you get
The invoice has line items I have asked about twice and still do not fully understand. The payroll runs correctly, but I should not need a call to explain my own bill.

HR support and the handbook builder cover what a small company would otherwise hire for.

The interface is functional rather than pleasant.

Thank you for the feedback on billing clarity. We have asked your service team to walk through the invoice line by line with you and to confirm nothing is on there that should not be.

Fees that were never in the quote
Three separate fees appeared in the first six months that were not in the quote I signed. Each was small and defensible on its own. Together they moved our real cost well above the competitor we turned down.

The app is a decade behind the website
The mobile app is barely usable. Employees ask me for pay stubs because they cannot find them, which defeats the point of self service. The web product is fine, so this is a resourcing choice.
