Steeper than we were told

Our superintendents cannot use it on site in any meaningful way, so daily logs and time still come in on paper and get keyed by the office. That is a whole job that should not exist in 2026 and it is the single biggest gap.

The field experience does not exist

Support quality varies enormously depending on who you get and whether you go through Sage or the partner. One call solved a payroll issue in ten minutes. The next took nine days for something simpler. That inconsistency is hard to plan around.

Built for the office, not the field

It is a Windows application and it looks like one from a decade ago. Our younger PMs comment on it. Then they use it, because it answers questions nothing else answers.

QuickBooks told us we were profitable at the end of the year. This tells us whether this job is profitable this week. That is the entire difference and it is worth every hour of the migration.

Certified payroll for prevailing wage work used to take our bookkeeper two days a week. It is now a report. We took on more public work specifically because that constraint disappeared.

The estimating module is powerful and it needs weeks of setup with your own assemblies and costs before it earns its place. We nearly abandoned it in month two. A year in it is the thing we would not give up.

The learning curve is steeper than the sales process suggested. Our bookkeeper of fifteen years struggled for two months and seriously considered leaving. It came right, and it was a genuinely difficult quarter.

Retainage tracked on receivables and payables both. Our old system handled one side and we chased the other in a spreadsheet that was always wrong.

Great once you are through implementation

Everything happens in the office. Crews on site interact with it through somebody at a desk, because the mobile story is thin. It works. It is also clearly designed around a 1990s org chart.

Committed costs from purchase orders and subcontracts show up before the invoice arrives, so I see the overrun coming instead of discovering it at closeout. We have changed how we bid because of what it showed us.
