Modular licensing meant we bought what we use

Our reseller knew our industry, configured it around how we actually work, and the project came in near the estimate. I have since learned how unusual that is.

Landed cost tracking that reflects reality

Cons

You are buying a reseller, not software

New staff take about two months to become useful. The screens are dense and the terminology is from another era. Once they are through it they are fast, but the ramp is real.

Strong US sales tax handling with Avalara

Outcome depends almost entirely on your partner

The cloud version is a hosted desktop

The single most important decision is your partner, not the product. Same software, wildly different outcomes. Ask for references in your industry and actually call them, because Sage will not implement this and whoever does becomes your experience of it.

Modular licensing, buy only what you use

Sage 100 Cloud is the same application on somebody else's server. That is fine and it is not what most people mean by cloud. Set expectations accordingly.

A lot of ERP for a small manufacturer

The modular thing is real. We are a distributor so we took inventory and purchasing and skipped work orders entirely, and the license reflects that. Every cloud ERP wanted to sell us the whole suite.

Lot and serial traceability that survives a recall

Reporting beyond the basics needs Crystal or a third party

Good ERP, long onboarding

Anything past the standard reports means Crystal Reports or a third party tool. That was not in the original quote and it is a real ongoing cost. Budget for it before you sign, not after.

Modular licensing, buy only what you use

Our implementation partner sank the project

Our first reseller configured it wrong, left mid project, and we paid a second firm to redo most of it. Eighteen months and roughly triple the budget. The software was never the problem. The channel was, and nobody warns you how much of your outcome rides on it.

Support escalation took three weeks

We had a posting issue that stopped invoicing and it took three weeks to get to someone who understood it. Three weeks. For a system that runs the business that is not acceptable.

Landed cost finally reflects reality

We are fifty five people making industrial components and this runs the whole operation. Bills of material, work orders, multi warehouse inventory. For the money there is nothing else in this class that goes this deep.

Twenty two years and it still runs the plant

Landed cost including freight and duty lands on the item properly, so our margins are actually our margins. We were guessing before and we were guessing wrong.

Every change beyond a setting needs a developer who knows the product, and they are not cheap or plentiful. We have a queue of small improvements we will never make because each one is a quote.

Modular licensing meant we bought what we use

We had a supplier recall and traced every affected lot in about an hour, including what shipped and to whom. Before this that would have been a week of paper and guesswork. That capability is why we bought it.
