Nothing else could handle our territory rules
The AppExchange had an integration for every system we run. Not a webhook and a prayer, a maintained integration with support behind it.
Pros
Reporting and dashboards are the deepest in this category.
Cons
Real support is a paid add on unless you are on the top plan.

Reporting our board trusts
With an admin, this is the best CRM available. Without one it is an expensive database. We hired a part time admin in month two and that is the decision that made the rollout work.
Pros
You can hire Salesforce expertise in any city in the US or Canada.
Cons
The interface is dense and reps need training before they adopt it.

Nothing else could handle our territory rules
Our sales process has seven stages, three approval gates and territory rules that change quarterly. Every other CRM we trialed asked us to simplify. Salesforce just modeled it. That flexibility is expensive and for us it was the requirement.

Powerful, and you will pay for the expertise
Reps find it dense. We trained everyone for a day and still spent two months on adoption. Once it clicked it clicked, but do not expect people to pick it up on their own.
Pros
Sandbox environments let you test changes before they hit the team.
Cons
The interface is dense and reps need training before they adopt it.

It models our process exactly, because we built it
Our sales process has seven stages, three approval gates and territory rules that change quarterly. Every other CRM we trialed asked us to simplify. Salesforce just modeled it. That flexibility is expensive and for us it was the requirement.
Pros
You can hire Salesforce expertise in any city in the US or Canada.
Cons
It needs an administrator past roughly 20 seats. That is a role, not a favor.

The AppExchange had an integration for every system we run. Not a webhook and a prayer, a maintained integration with support behind it.
Pros
Territory management, approvals and validation rules handle genuinely complex sales.
Cons

Support costs extra, which nobody mentioned
Found out after signing that meaningful support is a paid add on unless you are on the top tier. For what we pay per seat annually, having to buy the right to get help felt like a bad joke.

Cons
Per seat pricing is high and the useful features sit on the upper tiers.

We bought it too small and wasted a year
Twelve person company, we bought Enterprise because a consultant told us to. Eighteen months later we had a half configured system nobody used and a contract we could not exit. We now run Pipedrive and close more. Salesforce is a good product that was wrong for us, and the sales process did nothing to warn us.

The AppExchange has a maintained integration for essentially everything.

Reporting is in a different league. Our board pack comes out of Salesforce and nobody questions the numbers, which was not true of the spreadsheet it replaced.

Great once configured, painful to configure
The license is maybe half the real cost. Between the implementation partner and the admin time, budget roughly double the sticker price for year one. It is worth it at our size and would have been absurd at fifteen people.
Pros
You can hire Salesforce expertise in any city in the US or Canada.
Cons
Per seat pricing is high and the useful features sit on the upper tiers.
