The on ramp is gentle and the cliff is steep. Free to Starter is fine. Starter to Professional is a serious jump, plus a mandatory onboarding fee. Know where the next tier is before you plan around the current one.
Pros
Adoption is the easiest in this category. Reps use it without being made to.
Cons
The jump from Starter to Professional is steep and adds a mandatory onboarding fee.

Thanks for this. Marketing contact tiers should never be a surprise and we have shared your note with the team that owns that experience. Support can help you review your contact settings so this does not happen again.

Meeting links and email templates removed about an hour a day of scheduling back and forth across the team. That was measurable within a month.
Pros
Email tracking, templates and meeting links work with no configuration.

The free tier is real
We had failed two CRM rollouts before this. The difference is that nobody had to be told to use HubSpot. It was easier than the spreadsheet, so they used it. Adoption problems are usually interface problems and this is the proof.
Pros
Reporting is good enough for most businesses and needs no query building.
Cons
Marketing Hub prices on contact count and crossing a tier raises the bill sharply.

A rep opens a contact and sees every email, every page view and every form submission before the call. That context changed how our calls go and it is the thing I would miss most.

The first CRM our reps actually used
Ran the free tier for fourteen months with a four person sales team and it was genuinely enough. No trial countdown, no crippled features. We only upgraded when we wanted sequences.

Renewal repriced hard
Imported a conference list of about 4,000 contacts without thinking about it and crossed a marketing contact tier. The bill roughly doubled, automatically, with no confirmation step. The mechanic is documented, it is just not in front of you at the moment you do the thing that triggers it. Clean your lists and check the tier first.
