Compliance in four states stopped being my problem
We have people in four states and the compliance surface terrified me. Registrations, filings, state specific requirements. That is now their problem rather than mine and it is the single largest reason we pay the premium.
Pros
Multi state compliance and registration handled for you
Cons
Co employment needs explaining to your team

Compliance in four states stopped being my problem
Payroll runs itself, the 401(k) is integrated, and I have not thought about a tax filing in two years. For a company of our size that is the entire value proposition.

Workers compensation is bundled rather than a separate broker relationship and a separate audit. That removed an annual exercise nobody on our team was qualified to do.

We hired our first employee in a new state on a Tuesday and were compliant there by Wednesday. Doing that ourselves would have been weeks of registration paperwork.

Onboarding a new state took a day
I have contacted support at genuinely odd hours and got a competent human quickly, by phone and by Slack. As a founder doing HR at eleven at night after the real work, that availability is not a nice to have.

Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry the correction took as long as it did, as amended filings depend partly on agency timelines but our communication should have been clearer. Please reach out if anything is still open.

You live inside their plan structure
Performance reviews, applicant tracking and org planning are thin or absent. We run a separate tool for that. Justworks is a PEO first and an HR platform second, and the marketing slightly blurs that.

We are nineteen people and we offer health coverage that our candidates recognise from much larger employers. Shopping that on our own we were quoted terribly. Inside the pooled risk it is a different market, and it has directly won us two hires against bigger competitors.
