Implementation fees were not in the first number

We decided to leave and it took nine months. Data extraction was slow, the file we eventually received needed heavy transformation, and we were billed through a notice period after we had stopped using it. Going in took six weeks. That asymmetry is deliberate.

Replaces several systems and the integrations between them

Cons

Multi state withholding it gets right

I can report on a requisition through to a hire, through to their pay and performance history, in one query. When we ran systems for each stage that question genuinely could not be answered.

Pros

Complex time and union rules it can genuinely express

Your experience tracks whichever representative you are assigned

Reporting across the whole employee lifecycle

Beti puts the paycheck in front of the employee before the run closes and asks them to check it. Our post payroll corrections went from a couple of dozen a cycle to almost none, because the person who knows their hours are wrong is the person now looking at them.

Reporting across the entire employee lifecycle

Your representative is the product

Our first representative was excellent. She left and the replacement took months to understand our setup, during which everything got slower. The platform did not change and our experience of it changed completely.

Beti cut our payroll corrections to almost none

We replaced an applicant tracking system, an HR system, a payroll provider and a time clock vendor. The integrations between those four were a permanent tax and they are gone.

Implementation is a staffed project

The technology is genuinely good and dealing with the company is tiring. Constant outreach to buy more modules, pressure at renewal, and a sense that you are always mid sales cycle even four years in. Both things are true at once and prospective buyers should know that.

Complex time rules it can actually express

Multi state withholding including reciprocity is handled correctly. I watched a previous system get Illinois and Iowa wrong for two quarters and it cost us in amended returns. This has not been wrong once in four years.

Your representative is the product

This is not a vendor task. We assigned two people substantially full time for four months and that was the right call. Companies I have spoken to who treated it as something the vendor does are the ones with the horror stories.

There is no published price so you cannot benchmark without doing the work. We got quotes from three competitors first and used them, and I am confident we pay less than a similar company that did not. That is a strange way to buy software.

Getting out took most of a year

The implementation fee was quoted after we had agreed the per employee rate and it was a substantial percentage of the annual subscription. It is apparently standard. It was not in the number I took to my board and that was an uncomfortable meeting.
