We moved to a cloud practice management suite last year and I regret waiting. The billing is very slightly less flexible and everything else is dramatically better. The gap Timeslips used to have has mostly closed.

The rate engine is why we have never left
Work in progress review before anything goes out means a partner can adjust time, write down what should be written down, and see the bill before the client does. That step is where the money is and most tools skip it.

Rates by timekeeper, by client, by matter, with overrides that cascade in the right order. I have tried to build this in three other products and none of them could do it without a workaround. For a firm with client specific rate cards it is the whole product.

The release notes have been maintenance and compatibility fixes for years. Nothing has been meaningfully improved. It works, but it does not feel like a product anyone is investing in, and that makes me nervous about the next five years.
